Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff have dropped a new EDM track, and it's...

by Techno TV - August 30, 2017

Long-standing friends and creative partners, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, recently unveiled a new track called 'Get Lit,' marking their venture into EDM culture in an attempt to stay relevant.

Premiering the song at the Livewire Festival in England, 'Get Lit' signifies their first collaboration since their 1998 track 'Lovely Daze.' Reportedly, the song was crafted in response to the global "chaos and confusion."

According to NME, Smith addressed the audience before the debut, explaining the inspiration behind the track: "I wanted to create a song that empowers people to express their inner light. Each of us possesses an inner light, and sometimes... others may try to bring you down. You know your potential, but when they challenge you, it can shake your confidence. I wanted to produce a record that serves as a reminder for everyone to let their light shine."

Despite the positive message, the track itself falls short. 'Get Lit' comes across as a lackluster attempt at EDM, featuring shrill tones, gunshot sounds, a mundane bass line, and Smith's uninspired verse. Perhaps sticking to the classics like 'Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It,' 'Miami,' or the iconic 'Men In Black' would have been a better choice.
