Giorgio Moroder: ‘I Make Good Club Music Because I Don’t Go To Clubs’
by Techno TV - February 22, 2019
Renowned producer Giorgio Moroder recently discussed club culture, analog versus digital sounds, and his music in an interview with The Guardian.
When referred to as the grandfather of dance music, Moroder expressed his dislike for the label. He also rejected being called the godfather of disco and electronic music, preferring neither title.
Regarding the iconic dance track 'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer, Moroder surprisingly stated that it isn't suitable for dancing. He pointed out that his productions like 'Call Me' (Blondie) and 'Hot Stuff' (Donna Summer) are more dancefloor-friendly. Interestingly, Moroder admitted that he doesn't enjoy dancing himself, but his wife is a skilled dancer. He humorously suggested that perhaps his ability to create excellent club music stems from his absence from actual clubs.
Moroder also discussed his acquaintance with the late producer Avicii, mentioning that he knew him and played his songs. He collaborated with Avicii in 2013 and noticed the musician's struggles with drugs at that time.
