London's Printworks club will be closing down and transforming into office spaces.

The iconic Printworks club in London is set to face closure following the approval of a redevelopment plan by Southwark Council. The property owner, British Land, submitted a proposal last October to transform the existing club location into office space. Despite strong opposition, including a 10,000-signature petition and support from the wider industry, the council gave the green light to the redevelopment scheme, signaling the end of Printworks as a renowned nightclub venue.
Printworks, with its impressive 6,000-person capacity, has been a prominent fixture in London's nightlife since its opening in 2017. However, the council noted that the use of the former newspaper printing facility was always meant to be temporary, and plans for redevelopment had been in progress for a considerable period. The closure of Printworks will pave the way for a new three-part building, ranging from five to seven stories, housing a mix of offices and retail spaces. This development is part of a larger Canada Water redevelopment "master plan."
The decision has sparked disappointment among nightlife enthusiasts, who view Printworks as an essential and vibrant hub in London's clubbing scene. As the club bids farewell, it leaves behind a legacy and a void in the city's cultural landscape, reminding many of the challenges faced by beloved nightlife venues in the ever-changing urban environment.
