Sex, romance, and music are closely intertwined, as indicated by a study titled "Music Makes it Home." This research revealed that music enhances our sex lives and relationships. People who played music out loud reported feeling closer to their partners and engaging in more frequent sexual activities compared to those who didn't. The study involved surveying 30,000 individuals and conducting experiments in 30 different homes globally. During these experiments, participants refrained from listening to music out loud for a week, followed by a week where their homes were equipped with sound systems for researchers to observe the impact of music played aloud.
The study found that playing music in the house brought people physically closer, reducing the average distance between household members by 12 percent. Moreover, people spent an additional four and a half hours together when music was playing, and they were more likely to cook, laugh, invite others over, and express love for each other.
Furthermore, the study revealed a significant increase in sexual activity due to music. Couples had 66 percent more sex when music was played, and they spent 37 percent more "awake time" in bed. Neuroscientist Dr. Daniel J. Levitin explained that when people listen to music together, their neurons synchronize, releasing oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and affection.
While the study's credibility might be questioned, given its association with Sonos speakers, the findings suggest that turning up the music could spice up intimate moments for those willing to give it a try.
